The Before Pictures are the ones with the silver fixtures and purple walls, the After Pictures are the Oil Rubbed Bronze and Nutmeg walls
I have fallen in love with the possibilities of what you can change with a $7 can of spray paint. What is so cool as they come in colors like “oil rubbed bronze” or “gun metal black”.
Some quick tips before you tackle the job:
- Do it outside in no wind, away from the house or cars
- Spray when the humidity is low in order to cut down on the drying time
- Sand down the item to be painted, wipe with a dry cloth
- Apply several light coats with time to dry in between
- For knobs, punch holes in a pizza box lid and screw the knobs lightly to through the cardboard
Here are just a few things that I have done and I have included pictures of my most recent spraying adventure in this post.
- Turned a white wine rack to hammered black
- Knobs in my kitchen from bronze to hammered black, with a short visit as hammered silver
- Ceiling fan in my bedroom from boring white to matte black (the blades) and hammered silver (all the rest)
- Toilet paper holder, knobs and towel bar in master bedroom from builder stock silver and bronze to hammered black
- Guest bathroom fixtures and knobs from silver to oil rubbed bronze
- Huge flower pots from pink to copper
I have seen major improvements just with the knobs alone. I have 34 knobs in my kitchen and if I were to get new ones at even $4 a piece; I would be at $136. I also bought new glass coverings for the bathroom fixture….once again, much cheaper than buying a whole new light fixture. I call this the happy hubby plan….so I can spend money elsewhere. I have even shared my paint with neighbors and we changed her entry and dining chandelier from brown to copper.
What is stopping you from going out and buying a can today? Get motivated and change some boring things into your house into something unexpected with a small investment. Make something new again!
